Miami FL – The Kansas City Chiefs are currently slight favorites over their NFC counterpart 49ers, and although Patrick Mahomes among others on the team have been nothing short of spectacular in the playoffs, recent history suggests that the Niners could have the edge.
Go back to last year, and it was Sean McVay’s acclaimed unstoppable force of an offense spearheaded by an ever-improving Jared Goff, versus the Patriots stingy defense. Or go back to Super Bowl 50 with MVP Cam Newton and the Panthers facing up against an aging Peyton Manning, and the Broncos defense led by Von Miller and Co. Even all the way back to 2013, when a younger Peyton who had broken numerous records that year matched up with the Legion of Boom and the Seattle Seahawks.

The common denominator in all these Super Bowls was that the stronger defense won
I’m not suggesting that the 49ers are a sure thing to win the Lombardi, actually far from it. But if you told me Monday, that Reid and his boys couldn’t figure out Robert Saleh’s defensive scheme, and that Mahomes’s explosive offense was held under 20 points I would not be very surprised based on evidence from recently from past Super Bowls.
Either way, it should be a Super Bowl to remember.
